Through its humour, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil - this mock cookie-cutter horror flick sends a simple but powerful message that seems to be forgotten in the film industry: character is not synonymous with appearance (never judge a book by its cover).

Plot of the Movie:

A little misunderstanding results in a lot of comical gore in Eli Craig’s feature debut, “Tucker & Dale vs. Evil”. Tucker and Dale decide to go on a vacation to their cabin in the mountains. Their vacation takes a nasty turn when they are mistaken for murderers by a group of preppy college students.

Best buds Tucker (Alan Tudyk) and Dale (Tyler Labine) are a couple of "hillbillies" headed to their new fixer-upper vacation cabin in the mountains of West Virginia for a friendly hangout session.
Tucker and Dale wear clothes that look like they're in danger of disintegrating at any moment, but these guys are seriously nice. That's not how a group of preppy college kids sees them though. To them, Tucker and Dale might as well be inbred monsters from 'The Hills Have Eyes.'

The college kids go skinny-dipping where Tucker and Dale are fishing, and Allison, startled, hits her head. Tucker and Dale save her from drowning, but her friends think she has been kidnapped. When Allison wakes up in Tucker and Dale's cabin the next day, she is initially scared but gradually befriends them. Her friends, however, are convinced that the hillbillies have kidnapped her, or worse, and try to devise a rescue plan.

One moment in which Tucker hits a beehive with his chainsaw and runs screaming through the woods. Perceiving his behaviour as an imminent attack, one of the college kids takes flight only to end up impaled on a tree branch.

The students start attacking Tucker and Dale, but one gruesome accident follows another one impaled on his homemade spear and the other in the wood-chipper, where he lands after trying to take Tucker out. Dale and Tucker quickly conclude that the kids have come to the woods for some kind of suicide pact that they should try to avert, but that's before things go from very weird to very much worse.

The great thing about Eli Craig's film debut is that even though you know what's coming, the film feels entirely fresh and you take pleasure in seeing it deliver. What's fresh is the concept, turning the tables on horror expectations. Labine steals the show as the sweet-hearted Dale. He's instantly lovable. Like a big, dirty, beer-soaked teddy bear. Tudyk is his always charming self and shows just how great of a character actor he is. The two of them form a pair of the nicest hicks you'll ever meet.
